Townshend Street to close for a month

Townshend Street will be closed on Monday for a month to facilitate the seemingly endless drainage works taking place here in Skibbereen.

It looks like Market Street will be made 2-way for the duration of the road works.
It’s unknown whether this two way system will extend all the way up market street or just to Field’s Carpark.
A quick call to Cork County Council this afternoon hasn’t shed any light on the plans. If it goes all the way, it leaves one wondering what will be the procedure at the junction with Main Street. All will be revealed on Monday.

One beneficiary will undoubtedly be Hegarty’s garage and shop which is currently very difficult to get to from the Castlehaven or Baltimore sides of town.
Although, they really deserve a bit of a benefit as they have gone through most of the busy summer season with the town choked up due to the closure of North Street and the inability for anyone to get from the north of the town to market street.
