New Off Licence in Skibbereen

July 30, 2010

Costcutter/Esso on Market Street has added a full range of alcoholic products to its extensive range of products.

The Off Licence opened in the last couple of weeks and is alreday getting noticed for some great prices.

Costcutter is part of the Barry’s Wholesale group which recently bought the Carry-Out franchise throughout Ireland. If Costcutter Skibbereen in buying through that system then it is competing directly with the Carry-Out in town.
It will be interesting to watch the pricing in the two if they are both part of the same group.

July 15, 2010

Skibbereen is to feature on the national airwaves this weekend with the broadcast of the documentary The Great Irish Famine: Remember Skibbereen which will be broadcast by TG4 this coming Sunday at 8.30pm.

The documentary was commissioned by Skibbereen Heritage Centre to mark the National Famine Commemoration which took place in Skibbereen last year. The film gives an overview of the famine and how it affected the people of skibbereen and surrounding areas.

The documentary includes interviews with some well-known historians including Professor Joe Lee of New York University (formerly UCC) and Dr Larry Geary of UCC, but also features local West Cork historians with an interest in the subject.
